PPG Acquisition of SigmaKalon

On January 2, 2008, PPG Industries completed the acquisition of SigmaKalon Group, a worldwide coatings producer based in Uithoorn, Netherlands, from global private investment firm, Bain Capital. Read the Press Release.

SigmaKalon's portfolio of Industrial Coatings uses the most advanced coatings technology to provide custom and cost saving solutions for a wide range of industrial applications, including metal, wood, plastic and paper substrates. Customers depend on coatings that perform at maximum efficiency on their integrated production lines - and, PPG performs.

State-of-the-art and/or economical solutions are developed in waterborne, solvent borne or powder technology, generally based on our own in-house developed resins.

Industrial coatings are sold in Western Europe (under the Sigma brand), as well as in Central and Eastern Europe (under the Polifarb brand). These products meet the specific requirements of the industrial customers in a professional way, via dedicated plants and research and development facilities in Poland, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium. The main product portfolio includes coil coatings, metal coatings, powder coatings, lacquers for window frames and doors, wooden furniture varnishes, road marking paints, and electrical insulation varnishes.

A Spectrum of Products

Coil Coatings
Sigma branded Coil Coatings are sold both in Western and Eastern Europe. Our product portfolio covers modern technology and full system offer, including universal primers, back coats, and polyester, polyurethane and PVDF topcoat systems. PVC Plastisols are also in our product range. Powder topcoat is a recent development.

Metal Coatings / General Industry
This segment concerns producers of ACE (agricultural and earth moving equipment), bicycles, metal furniture, chassis, radiators, machinery, and metal fittings. PPG has a strong position with waterborne and solvent borne stoving enamels, 2-k PUR topcoat technology and modified alkyd systems.

Powder Coatings
Choose from a full product portfolio featuring epoxy, epoxy/polyesters, polyester and polyurethane powder coatings in solid and metallic colours.

Joinery for internal doors
For producers of internal doors a full system offer is available in waterborne and solvent borne products. The products for internal doors are sold under the Polifarb brand. Important product brands are Lazurtex for transparent products and Pollex for pigmented (coloured) waterborne topcoats.

Joinery for window frames
A full system is available for producers of window frames. This specialised waterborne product offer is sold under the Sigma brand.

Furniture
For the wooden furniture producer in Western and Eastern Europe, PPG offers a full system of waterborne, solvent borne, UV and acid curing, polyurethane, nitrocellulose lacquers as well as waterborne and solvent borne stains. A state of the art PUR topcoat mixing system is also available for furniture producers and distributors. Two different brands are used: Veveo Wood in Western Europe and Polifarb in Eastern Europe.

Road marking paints
The Navigator brand offers a full range of different road marking paints: waterborne, solvent borne, thick layer, chemically cured 2-k, and thermoplastic.

Electrical Insulation
The Polifarb product offer includes impregnation varnishes for electrical engines and insulation varnishes for copper wire cables. The product offer includes waterborne impregnation varnishes and styrene-free polyester varnishes.
