PPG INDUSTRIES PAINTS THE FORMULA ONE CELEBRATIONS FOR AT&T WILLIAMS
With the 2006 Formula One season PPG Industries has kept its pole position by extending its existing partnership with the WilliamsF1 Team until 2008, as official supplier of automotive paint refinish technology.
The European wide partnership with WilliamsF1 was originally established two years ago when PPG entered Formula One in 2003 as the official supplier of the team’s automotive paint refinish technology, and has gone from strength to strength ever since. The PPG identity has appeared on the team’s trucks and garage wallboards and will remain as such with the announcement of the extension.
WilliamsF1 launched their 2006 season race car, the FW28, at the end of January, at their headquarters near Oxford , UK . The car is both a response to circumstance, including the shifting technical regulations and the new primary partnerships the team has forged with engine supplier Cosworth and tyre company Bridgestone, as well as being its own clear statement of intent. The FW28 will sport a fully revised livery this season using PPG Industries refinish products - not only chic and timeless, it also provides an excellent canvass for highlighting sponsor logos.

PPG INDUSTRIES PAINTS THE FORMULA ONE CELEBRATIONS FOR AT&T WILLIAMS
PPG confirmed a continuing sponsorship relationship with the AT&T Williams team for the 2008 season and is taking centre stage as the team’s specialist paint provider as an essential element of a unique pre-season Formula One livery campaign.
To celebrate the team’s 30th anniversary, its 50,000 racing lap and its 500th Grand Prix, Williams is running a campaign of six liveries on its race cars during winter testing, with each one communicating a landmark the team will reach during the forthcoming season. At the Monaco Grand Prix this season, Team Principal Frank Williams will also record a personal landmark, as he records his 600th Grand Prix and 38th year as a Formula One entrant, and in so doing, will surpass the record of the sport’s most enduring owner, the legendary Enzo Ferrari.
For the six winter tests in Spain, the team has painted its FW30 race cars in a new, darker blue base colour, a reference to the heritage racing colours of the predecessor to Williams Grand Prix Engineering from the 1960s and 1970s, Frank Williams Racing. This new midnight blue will be the backdrop for the six winter test liveries and will also form the basis of the team’s 2008 season racing colours which will be unveiled in late February.
Paul De Belay, Director of Marketing for PPG Refinish in Europe said, “The high technology world of Formula One is an ideal place for us to show off our ability to deliver tailored paint solutions to very specific criteria and very tight timescales. It is great that our engagement with the team this year will start with an exciting livery campaign on the new race cars, something that our paints are integral to.”
PPG as the team’s specialist paint and finishes supplier ensures that the team’s race cars and other assets such as the transporters are maintained to the highest presentation standards while achieving other technical goals such as lightness and resilience given the very specific application demands of paint finishes on a Formula One race car.
PPG has partnered the AT&T Williams team since 2003 and in its 30th year, would like to take the opportunity to wish the team the very best for the season ahead which commences with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on Sunday March 16, 2008.

PPG named finalist, given honorable mention in 2008 PACE Award program
PPG, the world’s leading manufacturer of transportation coatings, has been named a finalist and received honorable mention in the 2008 Automotive NewsPACE Award program.
The PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence) Award recognizes innovation, technological advancement and business performance of suppliers that contribute products, processes, information technology, materials or services directly to the manufacture of cars or trucks. It is presented jointly by Automotive News, Microsoft, SAP and Transportation Research Center Inc.
A five-time PACE Award winner, PPG was named a finalist in the manufacturing process and capital equipment category for Green Logic paint detackifier. Used by domestic, European and Japanese automakers, Green Logic paint detackifier is added to the water wash system in automotive paint spray booths to denature and remove over-sprayed paint. The patented formula, which incorporates chitosan derived from crab, lobster and shrimp shells, provides an environmentally responsible alternative to detackifiers derived from non-renewable, petroleum-based raw materials or based on chemistries containing residual-free formaldehyde.
Green Logic paint detackifier has been named "best in class" by OEM users and nominated for many environmental awards because it helps automakers realize performance gains in paint detackification and overall paint spray booth operations. It also offers greater ease of operation and savings from reduced spray booth maintenance, biocide use and wastewater treatment. For more information, visit the PPG Automotive Coatings Web site.
PPG also received honorable mention in the manufacturing process and capital equipment category for 100 percent Esta bell waterborne basecoat – a European technology that uses a one-coat bell application. The innovative, environmentally responsible basecoat enables automotive manufacturers to reduce overall system costs and improve first-run capability without sacrificing performance by eliminating the need for a second pass of basecoat while still producing light metallic color matches that satisfy automakers’ requirements.
The Automotive News PACE Award honors suppliers who have embraced innovation or adapted and reinvented themselves to exceed the constantly rising expectations of their OEM customers and automotive consumers. PPG and other finalist and honorable mention companies were chosen from a thorough review of written submissions. In the coming months a panel of judges from industry, academia and business will conduct site visits for finalists to select winners, who will be announced in Detroit on April 14, 2008.
On the forefront of innovation in decorative and protective coatings and environmental application concerns since 1924, PPG helps automakers advance coatings technologies and application processes.
