Impact of Katrina on PPG minimal

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 31, 2005 – Officials from PPG Industries today said the immediate impact on company operations from Hurricane Katrina has been minimal.

PPG's Lake Charles, La., chemicals complex, which was not in the hurricane's path, is operating at normal capacity. Water transportation and a portion of natural gas supply were briefly interrupted at the company's largest chemicals facility, located on the Gulf of Mexico in southwestern Louisiana near the Texas border.

Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries is a global supplier of coatings, glass, fiber glass and chemicals, with manufacturing facilities and equity affiliates in more than 20 countries. Sales were US$9.5 billion in 2004.
