About us
 PPG UK & Ireland is based in Birstall, West Yorkshire, and has significant manufacturing and distribution facilities.
In fact, the Birstall site houses Europe’s largest manufacturing facility for Decorative Coatings with additional manufacturing facilities in the nearby town of Morley. This coupled with world class warehousing and distribution facilities ensures that PPG is ideally positioned to offer superb customer service and support.
2,000 employees work within the UK & Ireland, over 1,000 of which are based at Birstall, and the remainder working throughout the UK and Ireland in our national network of Decorating Centres and within our commercial division.
PPG manufactures products for the Trade and DIY market places, selling through a number of important routes to market including DIY multiples, independents and a wholly owned network of over 185 trade Decorating Centres.

Sustainability
 PPG AC Region UK & Ireland has launched a sustainability report describing the impact our business has on the various areas in which it operates. Looking at the key area of product development and quality, the report explains the business’s commitment to new technologies by focusing on such recent innovations as Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry that utilises the latest nanotechnology, Johnstone’s state of the art tinting system and Fat Hog, a new premier range of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) sourced brushes, rollers and painting accessories.
Community initiatives also play an important role in PPG AC UK & Ireland’s environmental improvements and the report explains more about our School Participation Scheme. Through school visits and onsite educational programmes, we provide an insight into modern manufacturing techniques as well as other conservation and environmental issues, the day-long schedule includes promotion of the environment and paint technology as well as environmentally responsible behaviour.
The report also provides an overview of Johnstone’s sponsorship of the League One and Two Cup Tournament and how local communities can get involved in various activities surrounding the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
