History
Originally developed as “visual armor” for the military, PPG Industries adapted this plastics technology for use in the ophthalmic industry in 2001 and called it Trivex lens material, because it produced three desirable benefits: clear, crisp vision, lightweight comfort and unsurpassed protection.
An entire new lens material category was born with a revolutionary combination of attributes that remains remarkable today. Most impressive, is the fact that the material possesses additional benefits that time has made even more valuable, such as 100% UV protection and durability that easily withstands the drilling required to compliment many of today’s fashion frames.
The growth in demand for lenses made from Trivex material around the world has been unprecedented. This rapid acceptance is a testimony to the material’s exceptional properties. Eyecare professionals have quickly learned that they can rely on Trivex material in endless applications, and patients have clearly noticed that not all lens materials are created equal.
Because the unique attributes of Trivex material make it an appealing choice for a variety of patients, manufacturing and distribution partners are continually expanding options in lens types and designs, and new partners are coming onboard. As the number of lens lines increases, and as availability expands into new countries, the growth trend for Trivex lens material is certain to remain strong well into the future. |
