Understanding NAHB® Model Green
for New Home Construction
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), through its Model Green Home Building Guidelines, is designed to move home building toward a more environmentally-friendly standard.
Local Home Builder Associations (HBAs), in cooperation with individual builders, can utilize these guidelines to help create voluntary HBA driven programs based on seven primary principles:

Painting Green with PPG: New Home Construction Guide
While not having its own specific category, paint selection is weighted in the green building guidelines based on the levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). The intent is to reduce the amount of VOCs released to the outdoors and to reduce the formation of ground level ozone.
