PPGは世界有数の自動車塗料メーカーであり、北米の大手建築塗料メーカーでもあります。 世界の主要な工業用塗料と容器コーティング剤のサプライヤーであり、このほかにも、板ガラスや加工ガラス、ガラス繊維（連続ストランド）や化学品を製造しています。
社名のPPGは、ピッツバーグで誕生したガラス会社という意味を込め Pittsburgh Plate Glassの頭文字を取ったものです。
