SunClean® Self-cleaning Windows Care and Maintenance Guidelines
If you follow the guidelines presented here, you will find that the SunClean self-cleaning glass in your windows will provide many years of satisfied service. (This information refers to SunClean glass care and maintenance; please refer to your manufacturer’s care and maintenance recommendations for your window system.)

Initial Construction and Installation
The SunClean glass metal oxide coating is bonded to the surface of the glass during the manufacturing process and is extremely durable. However, during and after construction, the glass should be protected from spills, runoff, and over-spray from common building materials. Caulking, lubricants, and paints should be promptly removed.

Initial Cleaning
1. Remove all product identification labels from the outside surface.
2. Remove any adhesive residue with a clean, lint-free cloth saturated with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol or other acceptable mild solvents.
3. Spray the glass with a mixture of 50% distilled water and 50% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol or one of the cleaners on the approved list that appears below.
4. Thoroughly flush the glass with water to remove any loosened dirt and residual-cleaning agents from the glass surface. (Note: Water may "bead up" in the area where the label was removed from the glass. The SunClean glass coating should clean this residual adhesive over time.)
5. Allow the glass to self-dry or squeegee it dry.
After this initial cleaning and with adequate exposure to ultraviolet light, your SunClean glass is ready to do its job. Depending on the exposure, it may take a few days for your SunClean glass to energize.

Ongoing Care and Maintenance
SunClean self-cleaning glass is engineered to use rainwater and sunlight to remove organic dirt and debris. In times of low rainfall, or on windows not exposed to sufficient rain, it may be necessary to do supplemental rinsing. If your glass has a stubborn deposit that does not rinse away, hand cleaning may be required. If hand cleaning is required:
- Use a mild soap or acceptable window cleaning solution.
- If you must contact the surface of the glass to remove heavy soil, use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently dislodge the dirt. Be aware that some soil deposits may contain abrasives, and vigorous wiping across the glass could cause scratching or damage to the SunClean coating or glass surface.
- After the soil is removed, thoroughly rinse all cleaning solution and dirt/debris off the glass.
- Rinse and dry all cleaning solution from window gaskets, sealants and frames.
As with any glass:
DO NOT use scrapers or razor blades to remove stubborn deposits or labels.
DO NOT use abrasive cleaning solutions or materials such as Ajax or Comet.
DO NOT allow splashed materials, such as paint, stucco, or mortar to dry on the glass surface.

Acceptable Cleaning Agents
The following household and professional cleaning agents have been found to be compatible with the SunClean glass coating. They should be used as recommended by the manufacturer, including any requirements relating to dilution of the cleaning agent. You should also first check with your window supplier to verify that these cleaning agents are compatible with your window sash and framing materials and finishes.
