$3 million research grant received in North Carolina

Funds to support development of advanced composite armor for US miliary vehicles

N. CAROLINA, Jan. 2008 - PPG has received a $3 million grant for work at its North Carolina Fiber Glass Science & Technology Center in Shelby, North Carolina from U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC). PPG will work to develop new advanced composite military vehicle armor, incorporating technologies from several business units. These new technologies will be used to provide U.S. service vehicles with lightweight, impact and ballistic-resistant armor.

“We thank U.S. Rep. Coble for his leadership and his help in securing funding to allow us to develop technology that will help our soldiers stay safe,” said Lynne D. Schmidt, Vice President of Government and Community Affairs.
