Community Involvement
PPG and its employees actively participate in the life of the communities in which our facilities are located.
Examples of this include:
- A three-quarter mile link in the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail that runs through PPG's Barberton, Ohio property that was dedicated in September 2006. “Although Metro Parks leases almost all the land that the towpath occupies in Summit County, the four-mile PPG portion is the only section on private, non-public property,” said David C. Whited, chief of planning & development for Metro Parks. “It’s an outstanding example of a community-minded corporation stepping up to the plate and recognizing an opportunity to give something back to its community.” MORE>
- Participation in United Way Day of Caring
- Open Houses to educate communities about our facilities
- Community Advisory Panels to respond to citizen concerns in communities where PPG conducts manufacturing operations
- PPG sponsorship of the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium
- Sponsorship of Household Hazardous Waste Days for collection and disposal of home owner hazardous wastes
- Work with the Wildlife Habitat Council to enhance wildlife habitat at our facilities and provide opportunities for environmental education of the public.
- PPG Foundation grants to support PPG employee involvement in community activities
