PPG products, R&D expertise showcased at SciTech Spectacular October 27, 2006 - PPG’s environmentally friendly paint, protective wood treatment, energy-efficient glass, and chlorine tablets for water purification were technologies featured in the company’s “Be the Hero of Your Home” exhibit during the SciTech Spectacular last week at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh. The event attracted more than 5,000 students from across southwestern Pennsylvania.
For the fifth consecutive year, PPG participated in the event which showcases innovations in science and technology, and is sponsored by numerous major corporations, research organizations and universities. About 50 PPG research-and-development associates from the Monroeville, Harmar Township, Allison Park, Springdale coatings plant, and Springdale research and development facilities (all located near Pittsburgh) volunteered to staff the PPG exhibit. The displays revolved around innovations from PPG’s coatings, chemicals, glass and fiber glass businesses.
“It’s a lot of fun to show young people how R&D is involved in products we all use daily,” said Jo-Ann Bice, senior researcher, Monroeville. “Students were keenly interested in our displays and demonstrations. I couldn’t help but think that some of them might be our researchers of the future.”
