PPG Europe automotive refinish gets ISO 9001:2000 recertification

October 10, 2005 - PPG Europe’s automotive refinish business has been recertified for compliance with the ISO 9001:2000 international standard for quality management in all of its locations. The business operates through many brands, such as Nexa Autocolor, PPG and MaxMeyer paints.

The recertification recognizes PPG Europe automotive refinish’s ability to deliver consistent products and services and is based on production unit audits in Stowmarket, England, and Milan, Italy, and commercial unit audits from 13 locations across Europe, according to Ram Vadlamannati, general manager - Europe, automotive refinish. The recertification is valid until spring 2008, and annual assessment is required for the certification’s renewal.

ISO 9001:2000 puts more emphasis on meeting customer needs, delivering customer satisfaction and achieving continuous improvement in all areas than did earlier versions of the standard, according to Vadlamannati.

Auditors noted substantial progress by PPG Europe automotive refinish in a number of areas:

  • Quality management after the transition of local management systems to the current European standard management system
  • Management skill
  • Business planning and alignment with individual goals
  • Data analysis

“The recertification indicates that we have a strong process-oriented approach to quality management. There is direct alignment between the ISO 9001:2000 standard and PPG’s Quality Process, management systems and customer service,” Vadlamannati said.

“But we can’t rest on our laurels. PPG Europe refinish must continue to drive changes through improved teamwork, communication, problem-solving and measurement.”
