Lake Charles nets $1 million grant for security improvements
September 16, 2005 - PPG’s Lake Charles, La., chemicals complex will receive a $1 million grant for security improvements from the Department of Homeland Security, Office of State and Local Government.
The grant will be made through that office’s Port Security Program. The funds will be used specifically to “make significant enhancements to our plant’s perimeter security,” according to Jon Manns, manager of the Lake Charles facility.
“This grant represents a strong cooperative effort between government and industry to serve our nation’s key infrastructure and is of vital importance to our facility and surrounding communities,” Manns said.
Manns praised Rep. Charles Boustany Jr., R-La., District 7, for his help in securing the funding. Manns’ staff discussed security concerns with Boustany when he toured the facility last month.
“This company is one of the many pieces of vital infrastructure in my district,” Boustany said, “and I will continue to work to make sure that the necessary security standards are met.”
Boustany also has a strong voting record in favor of legal reform and energy legislation supported by PPG, Manns noted.
