Waste

  • PPG tracks industrial and hazardous waste generated at manufacturing facilities worldwide. This metric is intentionally broad, covering all liquid and solid wastes requiring treatment or disposal, as well as off-site recycling of materials.

  • Industrial waste declined 23,000 tons, or 10%, between 2000 and 2006.  Higher industrial waste in 2006 reflects both a return to normal production levels in Fiber Glass and loss of outlets for beneficial use of fly ash.

  • Hazardous waste has remained essentially unchanged over the period. The largest category of hazardous waste generated by PPG is solvents, associated with coatings and chemicals operations. While PPG continues to focus on reducing generation, the majority of these materials are reclaimed, recycled, or recovered for additional benefit.
