Name: Octavius Title: Account Manager Education: Bachelor in Chemistry and an MBA with a Marketing concentration Years at PPG: 3.5 years Business Unit: General Industrial Coatings Location: Field Sales
I started my career at PPG in October of 1992 as an Account Manager in North Carolina covering NC and southern VA. In that role, I was responsible for planning and managing the sales efforts of a core account base with a focus on identifying, developing, and commercializing new targets in accordance with the region’s growth initiative. In 2005, I was appointed Group Leader for the Sales Team in the NC region of the East Zone. In this role, I am responsible for coordinating, supporting and providing direction to my team with a focus on growth and profitability.
Other accomplishements are:
• Served as a panelist for the WLC Sales Career Conference to offer a perspective on the role of sales in PPG’s Industrial Unit. • Assisted Corporate Staffing in recruiting talented individuals at the NBMBAA conference by serving as a functional expert on Sales and conveying PPG’s core value to perspective talent. • Collaborated with my manager to enhance our region’s “lost business” policy from a document that is static to one that provide real time input for the Business Managers to make proactive decisions. • Increased sales by 8% and secured an additional 17% of new business growth commitment in 2004. Secure over $5 Million dollars of new business in 2005. Negotiated, transitioned, and secured sales contract valued over $7 Million dollars in a base territory that was previously operating on purchase orders.
Best thing about my SBU: We are the only industrial coatings company that offers our customer a complete package of coatings (Pretreatment, Ecoat, Powder, & Liquid coatings). This allows our customer to single source their coatings needs and minimize the typical challenges associated with trouble shooting systems from multiple vendors. We are a technology and market leader in Electrocoat technology which adds to your credibility when calling on new prospects.
