Name: Maryann Title: Quality Assurance Facilitator Education: B.S. Biochemistry, Indiana University-Bloomington Years at PPG: 20 Business Unit: Industrial Coatings Location: Oak Creek, WI
I started with PPG directly out of college. My first assignment was in the Coatings business training program for new hires in Pittsburgh. I later became a product development chemist in the UV coatings group in Oak Creek, WI. Within 2 years I discovered my interests were in the environmental field, so I left the company for 10 months to pursue an environmental career. Fortunately an environmental engineering job opened up in Oak Creek and I returned to PPG. After 9 years as an environmental engineer, I accepted a position in manufacturing. The position allowed me to work part time to care for our small children. I was in quality assurance doing quality engineering and later managed the QC labs. I then wanted to experience the production environment so most recently I took on a dispense cell manager role. Finally, I made the decision to return to the ever changing quality control arena where I currently manage the Industrial QC lab and 2 Liquid dispense cell labs.
Best thing about my Business Unit: The Coating’s business has a wide variety of customers and many opportunities to work closely with the customer. Even in a manufacturing role you can find yourself working on a product that the customer needs to keep their line running.
One word that describes PPG: Opportunity |
