PPG introduced the Cost per Unit concept, by means of which the manufacturer entrusts in a sole vendor the supply of all products and certain services to the paintshop line, in exchange of a previously agreed management fee based on a finished painted body.
To the success of the first Cost per Unit experience implemented by PPG in 1994 in Auto Europa, Portugal, most of the vehicle manufacturers have followed and incorporated this pattern of supply.
