First B787 coated PPG SSS Coating

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the world's first mostly composite commercial airplane asked for an unique paint system. PPG worked with Boeing to develop Selective Strippable System (SSS) on composite parts.

Adding a thin layer of intermediate coating that can be stripped with a very mild stripper, When the coat system needs to strip, it only need to strip the exterior and intermediate coating leaving the primer untouched. The primer and sealant are not attacked by the stripper, it can save 30-40% during the strip and repaint process.

PPG is the only entire supply on B787 coating system which is sole source suppler on B787 primer and intermediate coating.
