The first A380 painted with PPG SSS coating system on Singapore Airlines

April4, 2007, Airbus started to paint the first A380 AC, which would be delivered to Singapore airline.

It would take 3 weeks time for this first A380 AC to finished painting job in Hamburg Painting Hangar. This A380 selected the PPG Selectively Strippable System, which includes High Solid Topcoat, Intermediate Coat and chromate free Structural Primer. The total surface area of a A380 AC is about 3,100 SM. It needs about 3,600 KG coating, while only 600 to 1,000 KG of coating would remain on the AC surface during operation after volatilization. The thickness of each layer of coating is about 0.12 MM and it could endure temperature variation up to 100 ℃

During the painting process, Airbus utilize the most advance and environmental protected technology. The Statistic Painting Process minimized the mist to the lowest level. Multiple air filtering technique separate the paint mist from outer environment for further process and dispose.
