PPG recognizes its responsibility to preserve and protect the global environment in which the company operates. To this end, we run our businesses using sound environment, health, safety and product stewardship practices while providing product solutions that reduce energy consumption and minimize the environmental impact.

PPG has invested in major projects that save energy and reduce the company's environmental impact. PPG is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emission intensity from sources in the United States by 18 percent from a 2002 baseline by 2012. While achieving the goal six years ago, PPG continues to improve its performance in the U.S. and is extending its goals to its operations around the globe.

We communicate with the public, participate in governmental processes, and support local communities.

Case One: Dialog at CCTV.com—Share•Global Practices of PPG Industries’ Resources Conservation

On September 8, 2007, PPG China cooperated with Suzhou Municipal Civilization Office, Municipal Public Security Bureau, Municipal Transportation Bureau, Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau to carry out the campaign of "Love my second hometown and be civilized Suzhou Citizen - The 1st 'No Car Day' -themed Campaign and PPG Employees' Round-the-Taihu Lake Riding"in Suzhou. Leaders including Mr. Fang Hong, General Manager of PPG Aerospace Materials Asia Pacific and Mr. Liu Baomian, Deputy Director of Suzhou Municipal Civilization Office, attended the ceremony and made speeches.

About 150 staff from PPG Suzhou Packaging Coatings Co., Ltd., PPG Aerospace Materials (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., PPG Industrial Coatings (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. and PPG China R&D Center participated in this event. A representative of PPG employee announced the Call For Action Letter for Taihu Lake Protection and Saving Energy. Leaders of Suzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau, Municipal Transportation Bureau, and Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau conferred the flags, which symbolize green products, energy efficiency, environmental protection and social responsibility, to representatives of PPG Suzhou companies. Immediately after the starting pistol was fired by the Deputy Director of Suzhou Municipal Civilization Office, all the PPG bikers wearing the "No Car Day" hats and the slogan of Taihu Lake protection took off from the Suzhou Amusement Park. Across the downtown area and along the Taihu Lake Avenue, they rode for about 3 hours and finally arrived at the destination of Dongshan Scenery Area. PPG employees delivered the Call For Action Letter and flyers to the mass along the road and hope to raise consciousness of environmental protection and call for the Suzhou citizens to protect the environment and save energy.

PPG initiated and organized the "2006 Maple Leaf Day" - Tianping Hill Clean-up Activity on November 2006. Over 400 PPG employees from 3 PPG plants in Suzhou joined the activity which consisted of a cleaning competition, collection of autographs on flyers to support environmental protection and Q&A games on environmental protection knowledge. The active employees and energetic children felt truly involved with the subject of this event: "Environmental Protection Starts from Me" The director of Suzhou tourism bureau and the Office Chief of Suzhou Spirit and Civilization attended the ceremony and gave speeches.

On September 2006, over 40 PPG employees attended “the 1st Beijing International Environmental Protection Action” in the Fragrance Hill. PPG donated 10 nice and neat billboards, carved with environmental protection slogans. The boards and slogans demonstrate PPG’s support to environmental protection and social benefits.
